This file contains the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness(STAAR) administered in Spring,2018,along with the answer key, reasons for correct and incorrect answers, and, for writing tests, the scoringguide. This document is available to the public under Texas state law. This file was createdfrom information released by the Texas Education Agency, which is the state agency thatdevelops and administers the tests. All of this information appears on the Texas Education Agency web site, but has been compiled here into one package for each grade and subject, instead ofhaving to download pieces from various web pages. The number of correct answers required to "pass" this test is shown above. Because of where the "passing" score is set, it may be possible to pass the test withoutlearning some important areas of study.I believe that making the passinggrade should not be considered "good enough." A student's goal should be to master each ofthe objectives covered by the test. The "Needed Correct to Master" score is a good goal formastery of all the objectives

STAAR reading and writing tests contain varying amounts of authentic published texts. Copyright permission for these texts is obtained from publishers by the testing contractor on behalf of TEA. These copyright agreements may or may not include permission for a wider, non-secure release after testing. If material that was used during testing could not be included in a released test form due to specific copyright permissions, text is provided in the form that indicates where the source material originated.
